Exploring Toronto: A City Full of Culture, Food, and Stories

Toronto is a city that blends big-city charm with a cultural heartbeat, making it one of the most dynamic places to explore.

From iconic landmarks to local markets bursting with personality, there’s something here for everyone. Let’s dive into some of the highlights that make Toronto such an unforgettable destination.

Lake Ontario: Where Nature Meets Urban Energy

Toronto sits on the northern shore of Lake Ontario, one of North America’s 5 Great Lakes.  The water’s edge offers serenity and awe from the busy cityscape.

Ripley’s Aquarium: Underwater Wonders

Step into Ripley’s Aquarium, where immersive tunnels surround you with sharks, sting rays, and other aquatic friends. We actually witnessed 2 turtles mating, and I was completely mesmerized by the saw shark!  You’ll feel like you’re part of the underwater, and are both the observer and being observed.

Art and Immersion: The AGO, The Power Plant

The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is a treasure trove of masterpieces, featuring works by Monet, Picasso, and the hot exhibit everyone’s talking about, Pacita Abad's quilted paintings.

For a quieter, more contemplative experience, The Power Plant gallery offers thought-provoking installations—and is donation based.

Banksy IRL: Street Art Meets High Art

If you’re a fan of street art, Toronto offers two opportunities to spot Banksy’s work. One piece is preserved in a sleek, modern luxury building, showcasing the city’s ability to mix the gritty with the glamorous. For a more raw experience, head near St. Lawrence Market to see a Banksy piece in its natural habitat. These installations are a testament to Toronto’s love for creativity—unpolished or refined.

CN Tower: Dining in the Clouds

The CN Tower isn’t just an architectural marvel; it’s a culinary adventure. Dine at the 360 Restaurant, home to the highest wine room in the world, and enjoy epic nighttime views of the city from every angle. The observation decks and glass floors will have you feeling like you’re walking on air.

The Markets: Kensington, St. Lawrence, and Beyond

Toronto’s markets are microcosms of its diverse culture. Kensington Market is an explosion of color, culture, and graffiti—especially in Graffiti Alley, where every wall tells a story. You could spend hours wandering here, soaking in the layers of art and history.

Over at St. Lawrence Market, is a gem that celebrates the city’s culinary diversity. Wellington Market a modern upscale vibe, offering everything from artisanal goods to authentic street eats, and is bustling with sophisticated folks from morning til night.
